Baseball in Japan

Japanese enjoy baseball – like Americans enjoy american football, Canadians enjoy soccer – Baseball is currently among the country’s most popular participatory and spectator sports. The current league, Nippon Professional Baseball, consists of two leagues of 6 teams each. High school baseball enjoys a particularly strong public profile; the Japanese High Schoold Baseball Championship (Summer Kōshien) each August is nationally televised and includes regional champions from all of Japan’s 47 prefectures. If you have chance to go to the professional base ball game, you enjoy the chanting of each baseball team. From middle of May to middle of June, interleague games are on, after that regular season starts.
