Japanese current era will end in a month with Emperor Akihito and Reiwa will be a new imperial era name. Each Japanese emperor’s reign is given a name, or “gengo”, the is then used alongside the western calendar to mark the years.
Rei can mean “commends” or “order”, as well as “auspicious” or “good”.
Wa means “harmony” and “peace”.
