New Year Traditional food, Osechi

Japanese people buy or prepare tiered boxes filled with special food for the New Year – it is called Osechi. The food in the osechi each has a special meaning, mainly to wish for wellbeing. We also eat ‘Ozouni’ which is the soup with sticky rice. The style and tase of Ozouni differ across the regions in Japan. It takes a few days to eat up the whole osechi – it is like leftover turkey from Christmas day.
